How it's worked out
Conception happens at ovulation — about 266 days before the due date, or ~14 days after your last period. Because ovulation timing varies, a few-day window is shown.

Good to Know
- →The egg lives only 12–24 hours, but sperm survive up to 5 days — so conception may follow intercourse from several earlier days.
- →This is an estimate and cannot determine paternity or a single day of conception.
- →An early dating ultrasound is the most accurate way to confirm conception timing.
From Conception to Birth
Conception (Day 0)
Sperm fertilises the egg in the fallopian tube, at or just after ovulation.
Implantation (Day 6–12)
The fertilised egg attaches to the uterine lining and hCG production begins.
Positive Test (Day 12–16)
hCG is high enough to detect — around the time your next period is due.
Birth (≈ Day 266)
About 38 weeks after conception, or 40 weeks from your last period.
How Conception Date Is Calculated
The calculator reverses the standard pregnancy dating maths, depending on which date you know:
From last period: Conception = LMP + (cycle − 14)
From birth date: Conception ≈ Birth date − 266 days
Example
Due date 8 Oct → conception ≈ 15 Jan (8 Oct − 266 days), with a likely window of 12–18 Jan.
